If you have seen any of Rob Zombie movies, they are usually a hit or miss. You either love him or hate him. Lots of people hate him for ruining the Halloween remake movies. His most well-received movie was “The Devil’s Rejects.” I’ve seen most of his movies. I liked most of them except for “Halloween 2”. I’m a sucker for horror movies, so I tend to rate them a big higher than any horror movie lover would.
I saw Rob Zombie’s movie “31” and I was actually impressed I’m not going to lie. If I had to rate this movie on a scale on 1 to 10, I’d give it a 7/8. I watched this movie in the span of 3 days. I watch horror movies at night since I am busy all day and I barely have time at night as well. I thought movie was decently organized and it had a unique setting. Now, without going to to detail, this movie slightly mirrored off a bit of The Hunger Games. It mirrors the idea of how people are being used as pawns to suffer for entertainment. In the movie, five carnival workers are kidnapped and are forced to play a brutal game called 31, where they have twelve hours to survive and must face a group of violent clowns in a large secluded compound. What I liked about this movie is it was tense and it barely had any dull moments. It made me root for the main protagonists, I will not lie. The dialogue was filled with humor, explicit language, and violent and dark language.
Unfortunately, what stopped me from giving this movie a 10/10 is that there was too much dialogue and it distracted from the storyline. There was too much dialogue from the villains and not enough action. While I’m into gore and violence, I think the movie was way too brutal and violent. If you have seen any of Zombie’s movies, they are known to be brutal, graphic, explicit, and sadistic. Zombie focused more on that than developing the characters. There’s barely evidence of any character development in the movie. Who are these people? Where did they come from? What is their backstory?
While this movie had its flaws, I still personally would watch it again on a special occasion. Maybe when October creeps around, perhaps I’ll watch it then?
